01/31 A Japantown Community Conversation With Adam From the West Bank

  • KOHO Creative Hub 22 Peace Plaza, Suite 540 San Francisco, CA (map)

The goal of this night is to engage members of the Japantown community in a safe, productive dialogue about life in the West Bank of Palestine. Join us for a discussion facilitated by Reverend Michael Yoshii, Pastor Emeritus Buena Vista United Methodist Church, and Co-Chair Friends of Wadi Foquin - highlighting Adam's story growing up under military occupation, in the West Bank Palestinian village of Wadi Foquin, located in the Bethlehem District. Adam has been in the U.S. since August 2023, and is currently attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the Master's Program for Civil Engineering.

Friends of Wadi Foquin is a partnership begun in 2009 with the village of Wadi Foquin and the Buena Vista United Methodist Church in Alameda.  FWF provides support for community development projects in the village, organizes trips to the region, and facilitates advocacy for the village.  Adam is currently representing Friends of Wadi Foquin speaking at a variety of venues to educate audiences about life in Palestine.

This gathering will be an educational opportunity for community members to learn about Adam's experiences and life for Palestinians. We hope to make connections through mutual sharing of cultural, historical, and family stories. Through this dialogue, we will explore how to support partnerships in support of residents of Wadi Foquin and promote greater awareness within the community.

*Please RSVP, a light dinner will be served. Donations made to this event will go to the Friends of Wadi Fouquin Foundation.
